How To Find The Right Products For Your Skin

Know Your Skin Type

First thing is first you have to know your skin type when looking at which products to buy. Everyone is different, a product that works well for someone else might have the opposite effect on you. There are four skin types; oily, dry, sensitive or combination. If you are not sure which skin type you have, we’ve provided a fun quiz that will give you the low down on your skin.

For oily skin:  Those suffering from oily skin should look for products containing glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide, and hyaluronic acid. These 3 ingredients effectively control oil production and only add hydration to necessary areas.

For dry skin: A combination of hydration and mild exfoliation are key for dry skin, we suggest using products that contain shea butter and lactic acid.

For sensitive skin: Look for products that have soothing ingredients such as aloe vera, oatmeal, and shea butter. These ingredients are super moisturizing, meaning they usually don’t lead to breakouts.

Combination Skin: As combination skin is characterized by oily and dry areas, it can be a challenge to find products that are effective for overall use, as these areas have very different needs. Vitamin C is an ingredient that promotes collagen growth while brightening skin tone. Lactic acid is best used as an exfoliant as it is gentle and well suited for sensitive skin.

Do Your Research

Doing your research is so important!! Some products have been known to have harmful chemicals added which is a no no for facial application.

Ingredients to seek out

Glycerin

The queen of all moisturizing ingredients !!!

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is key for locking in moisture as it is naturally found in your skin already.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps reverse damage from UV radiation and stimulates collagen production.

Retinol

Retinols help to stimulate collagen growth and eliminate dead skin.

Ingredients to avoid

Fragrance/parfum

If you say “ fragrance or parfum” run away as fast as you possibly can!! Fragrances cause skin allergies, irritation, and it’s especially important to avoid them if you have sensitive skin.

Sulfates

Sulfates strip your skin of natural oils leading to irritation, oh and they are found in shampoo meaning they should NOT be applied to your face.

Parabens

Parabens are commonly placed in products as a chemical preservative to prevent bacterial growth. Parabens are so harmful to your body as they are estrogen mimickers, meaning they can impact your hormones leading to breakouts and raise the risk of breast cancer.

Always do a patch test

A patch test is super important when trying any new product!! A patch test can help you decide if a certain product agrees with you or if it irritates your skin. Plus this saves you from buying skincare that does not work for you.
